Three minute paper
Near the end of class, students form pairs (or trios).
Question: What was the most important point of today’s class?
Question: What is still fuzzy?
(useful feedback for instructor)
Notes:
Everyone has to talk to someone else in the class -- and often the misconception or problem is cleared up before the student leaves the room. Just articulating the question is often sufficient for the student gain new understanding.
"Pairs" mean that are only half the number of papers for the instructor to read to get an very fast review of what the students are thinking.
If the papers show vast confusion on a point, the instructor can spend more time in the next class on it. If only a few students seem to have a problem, they can be answered individually in writing.
