SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE

1. You must stow the telescope in its “home” position. Go to the ShutDown menu (far bottom right on the TCS screen) and select either Manual or Auto. It doesn’t matter which you choose; the only difference is that Auto does everything by itself (stows the telescope, etc. although you still have to press
enter to exit out of the program) and Manual means you’ll have to hit enter between each step.

2. When the telescope is in its home position and the computer has returned to the DOS prompt, you can power down both the CPU and monitor. You will probably hear a clunk when you turn off the computer. This is the drive disengaging and is normal.

3. Unplug the telescope from the pier.

4. Rotate the dome back to its “home” position with the slit over the door.

5. Plug the slit power cord back in and close the dome completely. The motor will stop automatically when it hits bottom. You can leave the switch box plugged in for the next observer.

6. Replace the telescope cover.

7. Turn the air conditioner back on if you have turned it off. (This is very, very important in warmer weather!) Make sure you have turned off all the control room and dome lights and the dome door closes behind you. (Do not lock the telescope dome door.) Make sure the roof door is securely closed when you leave.
